ECO-ART MURALS
C.A.R.E. is in the process of designing and presenting the first set of eco-art murals or living walls in Western Canada. These pioneering murals are eco-climate artworks that move beyond the concept of plant boxes bolted to walls. Eco-murals are highly specialized eco-systems, which address and support well-being, as well as act as active aids in urban greening and carbon sequestration.
By encouraging urban planners and developers to incorporate eco-artworks into indoor and outdoor spaces there is an opportunity to further consider and action the benefits of temperature management, water runoff, biodiversity support and an improvement in the increase of urban space quality. C.A.R.E. is passionate this wider 'green solution' of eco-art is a solid way forward to introduces plants into urban areas and to encourage a wider engagement of citizens with contemporary art and nature as part of their daily living routine.
The first unique artwork is in the form of a portrait of the Anna’s hummingbird, and has been selected as a nature mural in celebration of the special status that this native humming bird holds with Vancouver residents.
The mural is a culmination of over 50 species of common sedum and grasses planted in the shape of the bird. It is also intended to attract our city’s iconic humming bird and other pollinators to this new ecological site.
The nature mural is a fusion of a living ecology and artwork visually and physically representing the power of greening our cities.

Vancouver’s first ECO-ART MURAL
C.A.R.E. is leading on delivering this pioneering eco-art mural:
- The inaugural mural is an eco-artwork portraying Vancouver’s own Anna’s hummingbird - the official bird of our city.
- This large-scale living artwork uses many local sedum plants and grasses arranged in the shape of the Anna's hummingbird.
- The wall is designed to attract our city’s iconic hummingbird and other pollinators.
- It is a natural focal point for Vancouverites and visitors!
C.A.R.E’s project spearheads a fusion of contemporary arts and living ecologies to create a stunning visual artwork that reflects on climate change and resilience.
Let’s make it happen!
C.A.R.E. is now seeking partners interested in sponsoring Vancouver’s first eco-art mural or helping with resources and time to make this project happen!
If you would like to become a partner, the C.A.R.E. Co-directors, Sylvia Grace Borda and Dr Ann Elizabeth Borda, would welcome the opportunity to hear from you.
